Updated: Jul 18, 2018

"Driverless robot (G Plus) that can deliver packages and storage locker that will use face recognition to unlock itself"

Alibaba, China’s largest online commerce company has, and the world’s sixth-largest internet company by revenue announced that there will be a couple of new members in the family, including a driverless robot (G Plus) that can deliver packages as well as a storage locker that will use face recognition to unlock itself. What does this mean for us? Simply that if everything goes according to plan, we will have yet another convenience in the delivery department. The robot was designed to be able to carry multiple packages of different sizes, the loading box can change sizes depending the package size it needs to deliver. Not only that, but this amazing robot can also deliver fresh food right to your door. It has a maximum speed of 9.3 miles per hour for safety reasons, but if it senses other people or cars then it reduces its speed to 6.2 mph. Once the G Plus has arrived at its destination, the customer can walk up to the robot, enter a PIN code and get the package or the robot can simply deposit the package. The storage locker is still only a concept but it holds special features, for example ability for customer to control temperature in case it is food that is being delivered. The facial recognition feature is built in so that it unlocks only for delivery people and customers.
